The Gold
Nancy Jarrell O’Donnell, Lacey’s mother, has channeled her wisdom into this book called The Loss of Lacey: A Mother’s Story of Facing Her Greatest Fear and Coping with Devastating Grief
We only part to meet again
Tho mighty boundless waves may sever
Remembrance oft shall bring thee near
And I will with thee go forever
And oft at midnight’s silent hour
When brilliant planets shall guide the ocean
Thy name shall rise to heaven’s highest star
And mingle with my soul’s devotion.
– E. A. Poe
The Lacey Jarrell Foundation
Green Star Art – Tucson, AZ
2007 ‐ 2008
Within the year following Lacey’s death, Nancy set out to create a foundation for youth arts in Lacey’s honor. I was eager to be involved and these are some of the ways I contributed initially:
❖ Provided multimedia services, e.g. graphic & web design, to increase attendance at monthly art walks & annual fundraising youth art exhibitions at Gallery Row & Hacienda del Sol, also participated as a youth artist
❖ Documented & aided event planning, administration, & promoted art therapies & bereavement counseling
2020 – present
❖ More information coming soon regarding my role on the board of the foundation and upcoming endeavors
A video tribute I created in 2007;
griefing through a creative process.
One of many art-catalyzed catharses…
Music by Paper Jones, “Moriarti”
These two videos to the right were personal expressions that I made around the same time. I was processing my own grief and going through one of the hardest periods of my life. The Lacey Jarrell Foundation and all those involved, especially Lacey’s mother Nancy, were a huge part of what kept me going. Nancy inspires me still, as do many of the friends of Lacey’s I got to know more after and largely because of her death.
