This project was born out of various moments and inspirations. With many thanks to my family, my friends, my teachers at Kino School, and mentors who supported and encouraged me throughout. I am still proud of this piece, though I have evolved far beyond it by now.

What Led to LAYERS
The inspirations and footage
Both of my parents would bring their enthusiasm to my ideas and curiosities. My father and I collaborated and reveled in our shared passions, which was that basis of the driving footage.

Irony
I named this project LAYERS eluding to the layers of meaning and literally the layers of images
this was ironically before understanding how to use layers in photoshop
the high contrast theme through a lot of my early work turns out to be quite a metaphor for my life.
What built upon the LAYERS project
Following my graduation from high school, I experienced and witnessed a tragic loss
LJDJ 1989-2006
Lacey passed away on July 6, 2006. It was my first traumatic encounter with death… It rocked many people… Lacey was an incredibly rare angel who loved so deeply and was loved so totally.
This was a dark and confusing time for me, I know I was not the only one
Provided Kino is such a small school, each of the graduating seniors is recognized individually and gives a speech.
